It appears that footage of a man wearing priest vestments was performing sexual acts with another man, and has since gone into hiding after the church placed him on “personal leave.” The video came to light this past many and has since gained the attention of Garda, the country’s state police which opened an investigation.
The scandalous video was filmed at St. Bartholomew’s Church in the Cloyne Diocese of North Cork. The Irish Mirror obtained internal church documents confirming the priest in questions has taken a leave of absence. “He has taken so-called personal leave to deal with his issues,” a source tells the newspaper. “It is understood he has been suffering from some mental difficulties and some addiction problems.” They further stated, “This has been a major scandal in the area and people are devastated by it all.”
The Irish Mirror also confirmed that the investigation is still “ongoing”.
Bishop Pat Buckley brought images to the attention of church leaders when the video first surfaced. “I reported the images to the Catholic Church hierarchy and I am told they have gone to the gardai,” he said.
