A German teenager was arrested in Germany for allegedly plotting to blow up a gay nightclub along with a Catholic church in Frankfurt.
The police arrested the 17-year old on September 1 in the state of Hesse which also includes Frankfurt. The Associated Press reported that the prosecutors just released the information with international media outlets.
Sinan Akdogan a spokesman for the Frankfurt prosecutors’ office told the AP that the teen was suspected of planning an act of violence, but that other sources divulged details about the intended targets. U.S. intelligence services provided assistance and information that lead to his arrest, sources said.
The Jerusalem Post related the suspect’s name as Yusuf Erkocoglu and holds both German and Turkish citizenship.
Trace amounts of chemicals were found in the suspects home, Akdogan told the AP, and the teen was in the process of acquiring more. He also had in his possession instructions on bomb-making, the spokesman added.
